Community Help on Area’s Nature Trails

Have you been walking along the Appalachian Trail and wonder who maintains these trails and how can I get involved? Well I know I have! After reading an article in the Roanoke Times, last weekend, called When Nature Calls, I come to realize not all community services on trails are fun and exciting but someone has to do them.

For example these individuals choose to spend several of their Saturdays, clean up others waste and maintaining trail shelters pit toilets, so just hikers don’t have to use a tree for these situations. Sounds fun right? I know at first I would have been with you, no way am I cleaning these areas for the community, but now I have been inspired by the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club and these individual to some day make as big of impact on our environment as they have.

If you would like come a volunteer around the Roanoke Valley and our surrounding areas, please contact the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club or your local parks and rec department. Volunteers are always Welcome!!!!
